15 August 2012: Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) chief executive Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday gave Maryam Yusuf Jamal a warm welcome on the occasion of winning the bronze medal in the womenís 1,500-meter event at the recently concluded 2012 London Olympics.
Jamalís achievement gave Bahrain its first-ever medal at the prestigious Olympics since the country made its debut in 1984 in Los Angeles.
Shaikh Khalid congratulated Maryam and praised here excellent performance in this event besides the insistence and determination she showed as she lifted the Bahrain flag high at the Olympic Stadium in London.
Shaikh Khalid then presented a special award to Maryam as directed by chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and president of the Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and wished her success and progress in the coming competitions.
The meeting was also attended by BOC Sports Affairs chief executive Noaman bin Rashid Al Hassan, Director of the Bahrain delegation to London Saud Al Ghunaim, team administrator Ali Al Sheroogi besides Maryamís coach and coach Tareq Sabt.
